Arrested for stealing from a bin!

Three men are standing trial for stealing from Iceland superstore’s bins. If it was thrown away, is it still theft?

  1. I don’t think the three men should be arrested because if Iceland had chucked the food away then they don’t need them any more. So therefore the three men did steal the food but shouldn’t be charged because Iceland chucked the food away in the first place.

  2. In a similar case, 68 per cent of its bagged salads, 48 per cent of its bakery goods and 24 per cent of its grapes go to waste. A man survived for just less than a year eating food thrown out in Tescos bins. Also the government is thinking about increasing the sell by and use by dates as they are just simply too short!

  3. I didn’t know that Kara! Was it in the article? I think the men have been acquitted now or the case was thrown out of jail. I always feel guilty when I throw leftover food in the bin and often do the ‘is it blue and does it smell rank?’ test rather than just relying on the sell-by-date.

  4. I can’t understand how people can take food from a bin. IT’S DISGUSTING! But on the other hand if you don’t have a house or a roof over your head andyou are starving and it keeps you alive fair anough but overall it doesn’t sound very appealing.
